What is the rule of 4 R's?

The rule of the 4 R's is a practical recommendation from the Bank of Portugal, cited in the News at the Moment, to encourage conscious money and resource management. This approach combines financial education with environmental sustainability.

The 4 R's mean:

  • Review your expenses: Analyze your monthly expenses regularly;
  • Reuse: make better use of what you already have, avoiding unnecessary spending.
  • Reduce consumption: Cut down on waste and adopt more efficient practices, such as saving energy or meal planning.

How can this rule help your savings?

Applying the 4 Rs to your daily life can generate significant savings and improve your relationship with money.

By reducing consumption, reusing resources, and eliminating impulse purchases, you are not only cutting costs but also building a mindset of conscious saving. Link.

Save and be sustainable: A dual goal.

The Bank of Portugal reminds that, by following this rule, you are also contributing to a more responsible consumption and a lower environmental impact. Planning expenses, avoiding waste, and consuming rationally are attitudes that benefit both your wallet and the planet.

Tips to start today right away

  • Make a monthly budget and identify where you can reduce expenses;
