If you have lost your documents, the Bank of Portugal (BdP) provides in the banking system, at the request of individuals, information on the loss, theft, robbery, counterfeiting, forgery, or unauthorized use of personal identification documents.
In addition, according to the Notícias ao Minuto, the same applies to information about "recovery, replacement or other alteration related to the status or validity of personal identification documents that have been the subject of a previous request."
"The personal identification documents covered by the service are as follows: citizen's card, identity card, passport, residence permit or title," the news read."
Therefore, "individuals must make a new request to the Bank of Portugal whenever there is recovery, replacement, or other change in the status or validity of the personal identification documents that prompted a diffusion request."
The Bank of Portugal will disseminate this new request through the banking system, as stated.
Also note that, "under normal conditions, the Bank of Portugal informs the banking system about the loss or recovery of personal identification documents within a maximum period of five working days after the presentation of the respective request for dissemination."
According to the news website, the BdP warns that "this service does not cover situations of loss, theft, robbery, counterfeiting, forgery, or illegal use of bank cards, checks or other means of payment", meaning that "in these situations, the respective cardholders must contact the issuing entity of these means of payment as soon as possible."
In order to request information from the BdP regarding your personal identification documents, it is necessary:
"Regardless of the form used to request the service, you must always attach to the request the police or judicial entity report or declaration attesting to the occurrence," reads the note, finally.
