If you are thinking of buying a house in 2024, be aware that you will have to pay the Municipal Property Transfer Tax (IMT), even if you use a housing loan. This year, the values of this tax have been updated, so the amounts due will depend on the tables disclosed by the Tax Authority, considering the value and purpose of the property in question.
However, it is worth noting that, according to Deco Proteste, cited by Notícias ao Minuto, the tax "is calculated based on the higher amount: the value of the property in the deed or the Taxable Asset Value listed in the property card".
"In general, the tax is calculated based on the acquisition price, since it is usually higher than the Taxable Property Value. However, if the latter is the highest value, it will be the basis for calculating the amount to be paid by the property buyer," explains the consumer defense organization.
