According to data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), shared on Notícias ao Minuto, Portugal leads the list of countries where housing affordability is most challenging. In the third quarter, the index reached 157.7 points, the highest value since records began for the country.
According to Expresso, Portugal not only faces its worst scenario ever but also occupies the first place among the 30 countries analyzed by the OECD in terms of difficulty in accessing housing.

The numbers also show that the country is 36% above the OECD average, which stands at 115.7 points, and 50% above the euro area average, which is at 104.7 points.
Furthermore, in the last ten years, Portugal was the country where housing accessibility deteriorated the most among the 30 analyzed. In the third quarter of 2014, the index was 99.6 points, but reaching 157.7 points in 2024, there was an increase of 58.33% in the difficulty of acquiring housing.
Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, during a visit to Brazil, stated that the country needs more manpower to achieve public investments in housing, highlighting the difficulties in meeting the sector's current needs.
