The deadline for filing the IRS statement for 2026 is between April 1st and June 30th, 2026, for all taxpayers, regardless of income category. This applies to both those using Automatic IRS and those filling out the Model 3 statement with attachments.
Delivering within this period is essential to avoid penalties and to ensure that the refund is processed within the legal deadline.
If entitled to a refund, the Tax Authority has until August 31, 2026 to pay the amount, provided that the tax return was filed within the legal deadline. In practice, many taxpayers receive it before that date, especially if they file early and if the return is simple and error-free.
On average, the refund may arrive more quickly when the IRS is filed early in the campaign, but the legal deadline remains the end of August.
If your settlement indicates a tax to be paid, the deadline for payment is also August 31, 2026, provided that the declaration has been submitted within the legal period. If the tax is settled near the end of the deadline, the payment must be made by the date indicated on the payment notice issued by the Tax Authority.
If you exceed the indicated deadline, you may be subject to late fees and other tax consequences.
After submitting the declaration, you can follow the status on the Finance Portal. The Tax Authority may indicate three scenarios: refund to be received, payment order to be paid or settlement without adjustment.
This follow-up is important because it allows to realize if the statement was correctly validated and if there is any error to correct before the process moves forward.
Delivering late can result in fines, late payment interests, and delays in reimbursement. Additionally, you may lose tax benefits or complicate the regularization of your tax situation.
Therefore, it is ideal not to leave the submission for the end and always confirm if the data is correct before submitting.
