The inflation rate increased to 2.3% in Portugal in October, representing a 0.2 percentage point rise compared to September.
According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), as explained by Notícias ao Minuto, this rate is a preliminary estimate of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month.
Core inflation, which excludes prices of more volatile goods like food and energy, recorded a variation of 2.6%, slightly below the 2.8% in September.
The energy products showed a variation of -0.2%, while the prices of unprocessed food rose to 2.1%.
Compared to September, the IPC had a variation of 0.1%, contrasting with 1.3% the previous month and -0.2% in October of last year.
In the last 12 months, INE calculates that the average variation of the CPI has been 2.2%, a value that remained stable since the previous month.
The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), which compares inflation with other European countries, remained at 2.6% in October, identical to the value of the previous month.
The annual inflation rate in the eurozone accelerated to 2.0% in October, compared to 1.7% in September, according to the rapid estimate from the European Union's statistical service (Eurostat) shared by the news website.
