To understand how the application works, we explain shortly.
The Portuguese state has launched an app that allows for the replacement of physical identification documents, digitally storing them to be shown whenever necessary to authorities.
Identification documents can be added to a wallet in the app, which can be accessed at any time, without the need for internet. To be able to use it without wi-fi, however, you must previously download the data of the saved documents to a PDF document, which generates a digitally signed certificate validly.
The application is free and can be installed through various software: iOS on the App Store, Android on the Play Store, and Huawei on the AppGallery.
The application allows to save and check the following documentation:
Identification
Car
Health
Military
Professional
Beam
By having identification documents installed, configured, and authenticated in the application, it stores the image, personal data, and legal value of the cards.
The application is only valid in Portugal, but digital certificates created in it are valid within the European Union.
Regarding the documents related to driving, the Road Code determined that the driver had to carry physical identification documents, but with this application, there have been legislative changes that now allow them to be replaced by the digital version.
If the authorities require the documents, it is necessary to show the QR code generated by the application (or the respective numerical code, in the case of manual confirmation). If, due to lack of internet or other means, the requesting authority cannot read the digital documents, they must go to an authority indicated within five days to present the documentation, or send it in copy electronically. If they fail to do so, they may be subject to a fine of between 60 and 300 euros.
Note that it is also possible to authenticate another person's identification documents by scanning the QR code on the document. Then, you can select the "Access Code" option and enter the code generated by the other person's document.

First, know that it's only possible to use this application if you have your Mobile Digital Key (CMD) active.
The first step is to search the application in the respective store of your "Id.gov.pt" software and download it.
Afterwards, to insert your CMD input your phone number and access code of four digits. Then, you will receive a code by message, which you should enter in the request field.
When entering the application, you will have two options: Document Wallet, where you can add the documentation mentioned above, and Document Validation, where you can read the QR code. Whenever you add a document, you will be asked again for the CMD with the number and access code.
If you still don't have your CMD, you can request online (through the citizen card, authentication PIN, and card reader), or in person at the services of the Institute of Registration and Notary and Citizen Space counters. You can also request it through the Tax Portal.
