The budget may become more balanced with the decrease in prices resulting from the relief of inflation, but it can be even more so if you choose to revisit your credit and insurance contracts. On social network X, formerly Twitter, the Ministry of Finance highlighted that the slowdown in the inflation rate occurred in December for the fourth consecutive month.
Faced with the latest data, which indicate an inflation rate of 1.4%, the entity reveals that this is the lowest value recorded in recent years.
"Inflation decreases for the fourth consecutive month, registering 1.4% in December, the lowest value in the last two years," the Ministry states in the publication. Furthermore, "the inflation rate for 2023 stood at 4.3%, a value below the 4.6% forecasted by the Government in the State Budget for 2023".
Data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) also reveal that the inflation rate recorded in December was 0.1 percentage points lower than November, equivalent to an average variation of 4.3% in 2023 and 7.8% in 2022.
"The decrease in the IPC variation rate between 2022 and 2023 was influenced by the behavior of energy products with an average annual variation of -9.0% (23.7% in the previous year) and by the slowdown in core inflation and non-transformed food products, which recorded average annual variations of, respectively, 5.0% and 9.5% (5.6% and 12.2% in 2022)," said the INE, quoted in a News ao Minuto article.
As for the Portuguese Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), the average rate of change in 2023 was 5.3% (8.1% in the previous year), and the year-on-year rate of change was 1.9% in December, 0.3 percentage points lower than in November 2023 and 1.0 percentage points lower than the value estimated by Eurostat for the Euro area.
A lower inflation rate is good news for Portugal, as it is expected to result in lower prices, but did you know that you can still improve your personal outlook even more?
In the case of having credits and insurances, it can be simple... you can ease your monthly repayments by reviewing the products.
So it is possible to communicate with contracting entities in order to show dissatisfaction with the current conditions, so that they renegotiate the contracts.
To lower the installments, they may suggest contracting more products for your contracts, and in that case, you should do the math to see if it is worth it compared to the amount you will pay or the extra conditions you are subject to.
If it is not worth it, it is also simple ... you can change the contracts from entities, making a transfer to a new creditor and/or insurer.
The cost of transfers can be free and the help that can support you is certainly free as well. Credit intermediaries and insurance mediators from Poupança no Minuto help you throughout these processes, without any charge!
