The reimbursement of tuition fees to young people who recently graduated or obtained a master's degree in Portugal has already begun to be paid. But who will receive it?

According to the Ministry of State and Finance, the salary refund for tuition fees started being paid on July 30th to young people who completed bachelor's and master's degrees, as reported by Notícias ao Minuto.
The amount at issue is between 697 euros per year of undergraduate studies or 1,500 euros per year of master's studies. In the case of integrated master’s degrees, the amount is paid for the corresponding period.
According to the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, there are over 161 thousand applications received so far to receive the funds.
But after all, who is entitled to this benefit?
What are the required access requirements for the prize?
The measure in question provides for the refund of tuition fees to workers up to the age of 35, who have graduated or obtained a master's degree in public or private education, starting from the year 2023, in Portugal or abroad.
Considering that "academic degrees obtained abroad must be recognized in Portugal, always considering the date of obtaining the degree abroad and not the date of recognition in Portugal", according to the e-Portugal portal.
The payment is being made by the Tax and Customs Authority (AT) via bank transfer to the IBAN associated with each taxpayer on the Finance Portal.
It is also on this portal where you will find the final decision in your personal area. "To check the payment status, just go to the ePortugal portal, the Portal das Finanças, or through the Situação Fiscal - Pagamentos app, and go to the Refunds section," explains Notícias ao Minuto.
This is an award that will be paid annually by the AT for a number of years equivalent to the study cycle, not subject to IRS or Social Security contributions. To apply for the refund, it is necessary to fill out an online form, which this year had to be completed by May 31st.
